This stunning pair of vases high quality are cut faceted amber glass with a deeply etched band finished in gilt. The band appears to depict some of the labours of Hercules, although it does not show them all and we are not sure which ones are depicted. The pattern is the same on both vases. The effect of the decoration looks like an overlay of gold, but it is on close inspection gilding of the glass.
Like most Moser Karslbad work, this pair is not marked.
The Ludwig Moser & Söhne glassworks was founded in 1857 in Karlsbad in Bohemia, Austria-Hungary (now Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic). In a short space of time they developed a worldwide reputation, winning many awards at major exhibitions such as the Paris and Chicago Expositions.
A superb example of Bohemian glass of the turn of the 20th century
