This charming Staffordshire flatback is a good size (9.25 inches tall) well moulded and coloured and in excellent display condition (see later regarding base). We describe him as a shepherd with a lamb - it is possible, especially given the guitar he holds, that this is a portrait of a musical performer of the period, as these Staffordshire figures often were.
The jacket of the boy is in underglaze blue, with the other colours being overglaze enamels. Some of the colouring extend to the back. There is a patch of misfired blue at the back.
Condition is excellent. There is some slight loss of enamel to the hair and the moulded base, and overall light unstained crazing, otherwise no chips cracks or restoration. However the base appears to have deliberately opened to reveal the interior of the model (which is actually quite interesting to see!). It looks like the base has a painted mark.
