Detailed description:

A stunning landscape painted by John M Green in oil on an oil sketching paper.  The paint is fairly flat but textured for certain details, e.g. clouds and flowers. The painting is signed by Green using the signature he adopted in c1938, when he was studying art.

This painting shows the unmistakeable surrealist influence of John Nash, who was teaching at the Royal College of Art in 1938, and of his elder brother Paul Nash.  The style of the painting is quite unlike Green's later work of the late 1940's and 1950s, when he adopted a post-impressionist style.

In later years, Green was Head of Art at the Margaret Glenn-Bott school in Nottingham.  He also painted and sketched prolifically.

Will be sent carefully rolled in a 4" tube.
