This is a good well-fired example of a Martin Brothers vase, as usual finely potted (probably by Clement Martin) and decorated with stylised large fruit heads and leaves under a rich salt glaze. The orange peel salt glaze effect is subtle and varied and particularly pleasing.
The vase has a thin metal applied rim. The shape suggests that this is as intended. However it could have been applied later although it would have been some time ago as it has age.
In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. There are some firing cracks around the base, a common feature of Martin Brothers pottery.
The incised signature on the base reads 11-1890, Martin Bros, London & Southall. It is a medium-sized vase, standing 17 cm high.
