Doulton Lambeth German style salt glazed jug by Harry Simeon, c1910

Stock Code: 1502649754

Here is a great example of the" Leopard Skin" ware which Harry Simeon designed for Doulton Lambeth in about 1910.  The ware is salt glazed stoneware, and it has been designed to show off the "orange peel" effect of the salt glaze, which normally Doulton went out of their way to avoid (unlike, for example, the Martin Brothers, who used it to good effect).  It was intended to imitate, in shape and glaze, the German Rhineland stoneware jugs of the 16th-17th centuries.

The base is farily encrusted with glaze but the Royal Doulton stamped mark and a stamped number may be seen.

Harry Simeon was an innovative Doulton designer whose wares are becoming increasingly rare to find.

The jug is 19cm tall, and guaranteed free from any damage or restoration.
